Chinese-owned TikTok created an ‘alternate universe’ for Russia after Ukraine invasion – allowing state propaganda to dominate the platform while cutting Russian users off from the outside world.

 TikTok first introduced a ban on new content uploads in Russia on March 6

 It coincided with all content from outside Russia being blocked in the country

 Despite this, researchers discovered pro-Putin videos were still being uploaded

 There was a loophole allowing propagandists to share videos to TikTok

TikTok, the Chinese-owned social video platform, created an ‘alternate universe’ in Russia following the invasion of Ukraine, leaving users exposed to propaganda, while cutting them off from the outside world.
