Montenegro supported the EU’s decision to impose sanctions against the “Wagner Group”, “responsible for serious human rights violations in Ukraine, Syria, the Central African Republic, Sudan and Mozambique.”
According to the newspaper “Vijesti” from Podgorica, the sanctions imply a ban on entry and freezing of property. Recall that on December 13, 2021, the EU adopted Decision 2021/21961 amending Decision 2014/145/CFSP, which added three people to the sanctions list.
“Given the involvement of the ‘Wagner Group’, an unincorporated military entity based in Russia, in activities that undermine and threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, especially in the Donbass, the Council believes that three individuals should be added to the (sanctions) list,” – indicated in the message of the Council of the EU.
Albania, Norway and Ukraine have already joined the sanctions.
