The cognitive domain should not be limited to influencing information operations, social engineering and the conceptual approach of “controlling hearts and minds,” but should include all domains in which there is a possibility of ideological attacks.
The corruption of the mind is not just the public but cyber functions since these groups are now on the front lines. One problem is the lack of realization by organizations that this is a fact. We are all targets. The ‘fog of war’ has crept into cyber functions that directly access organizational leadership.
Observations of the cyber landscape lead us to examine innovative ideas surrounding hybrid warfare, information warfare, information operations, soft power, cognitive warfare, psychological operations, disinformation, and influence operations. We see psychological operations as a function within cognitive warfare with specific attributes.
