Russia in Ukraine
What purpose does it pursue?
Last week, Turkish President Erdogan’s spokesman announced that after talking with Putin, Turkey found out that Russia is looking for a big deal with America, France, England, and Germany to “cancel the results of the Cold War”. Although Russia denied this claim in a way that gave the meaning of confirmation, the content of the security arrangements that Russia offered to America before the start of the fighting in Ukraine included the same provisions and solution.
If these words and some other rumors are true, it means that Russia’s goals in Ukraine are, or have been, far beyond Ukraine and its disarmament and demilitarization. Some of Russia’s behavior since the beginning of this conflict has not yet been explained. The beginning of the battles as “special operations” and not a war, which meant the limited use of military forces, the withdrawal of that country’s army from the suburbs of Kiev, no attack on the economic and industrial infrastructure of Ukraine until the last few weeks, a small presence in the scene. Military to the extent of preventing Ukraine’s attack on Donetsk and Lugansk and the subsequent referendum in them, were examples of the same calm method of Russian leadership despite criticisms at home and abroad.
All of Russia’s behavior showed that Russia does not want the quick defeat of Ukraine and is counting on increasing the economic, political, and military gap in NATO and the European Union and between these countries and the United States, so that the prolongation of the conflict will not only determine the fate of Ukraine. slow down, but also clarify the fate of America and Europe. Of course, this gap has just emerged. In all the European countries, the nationalist forces that are opposed to the US are gaining strength, and these forces will turn away from the US under certain conditions.
America intends to solve its problems at the cost of the pressure and bankruptcy of the European Union, and Germany at the top of it, and the sabotage in Nord Stream is a clear sign of that. Although the current German leaders agree with this American policy, it does not mean that all politicians and especially the German people agree with it. This is when the conflict between the local people, especially in Eastern European countries and even Poland, has increased with the Ukrainian refugees. Inside the US, the voices against US aid to Ukraine and the prospect of a global nuclear war are getting louder every day.
The situation in the European Union is very critical. The criticism of the leaders of these countries has reached an unprecedented level. The way Hungarian Prime Minister Orban was treated and the unprecedented words of the new Italian Prime Minister against Macron are a sign of this situation.
African countries are leaving the hands of America and Europe one after another. After Central Africa, Mali, it is the turn of Burkina Faso followed by Nigeria.
In Latin and Central America, the distance from the West is increasing day by day. The isolation of the West showed itself during the recent voting in the United Nations regarding the recent referendum in Donetsk and Luhansk, etc., where the United States opposed Russia’s request for a secret ballot, knowing that in this case the majority of countries in the world would vote in favor of Russia. While in public voting, out of fear that the Americans will consider it as a precedent and fuel separatism in their countries, they will be forced to observe their domestic political considerations.
Therefore, Russia has not involved itself in such a conflict and has not put up with such pressure that Ukraine becomes neutral or civilian.
The ultimate goal of Russia is to return NATO to the borders of the Soviet Union, that is, to cancel the consequences of the Cold War, and even more, to expel America from Europe. The fact that Russia sets such conditions for negotiations shows that, according to the leaders of that country, the West has entered a crisis that it cannot get out of easily. The controversy over the use of nuclear weapons in the West is not only to save Ukraine, but to prevent this fate.
