The killing and wounding of 8 members of the Nigerien forces and the death of a Frenchman in clashes with Islamic State fighters in southeastern Niger
Niger – Diffa – Amaq Agency: Eight Niger army forces were killed and wounded, and a French expatriate was killed in clashes that erupted near “Diffa”, southeast of Niger.
Security sources told “Amaq” agency that the Islamic State fighters set up a security checkpoint on Tuesday (June 29th) on the road linking the city of “Diffa” and the town of “Mini Soroa”, during which they managed to capture a French expatriate.
The sources added that the fighters then clashed with a convoy of the Niger army that tried to block their path in the vicinity of the area, which resulted in the killing and wounding of 8 soldiers and the damage of two vehicles.
The Frenchman died of his wounds sustained during the clashes.
The same sources also reported that another clash took place on the same day near the town of “Matari” with a Niger army patrol, which led to the injury of a number of others.
