The leader of the Khorasan branch of ISIS was arrested in Afghanistan

The Afghan National Security Agency (ANSA) announced that Abdullah Orakzai, known as “Aslam Farooqi”, the leader of the Takfiri group of ISIL, has been arrested along with two other commanders of the group.

The Afghan National Security Agency said in a brief statement on Saturday that Aslam Farooqi and two commanders and 20 of their men had been arrested in a special operation by security forces.

In August 2009, the UN Monitoring Team announced that the Khorasan branch of ISIL had chosen Aslam Farooqi to replace ISIS leader Abu Omar al-Khorasani.
