In mid-September, the international intelligence community InformNapalm published a material based on a combined CYBINT/HUMINT investigation, which points to unscrupulous actions by Kazakh defense contractors aimed at helping the Russian Federation circumvent sanctions. The publication, in particular, discussed the maintenance of French avionics of Su-30SM fighters at Russian aircraft repair enterprises. The material concerned the activities of LLC ARC Group and JSC “Aircraft Repair Plant No. 405” (АРЗ 405), which acted in the interests of the Russian defense contractor “Rosaviaspetskomplekt” and the Irkutsk Aviation Plant. On the French side, Thales and Safran were involved in the case. We have reached out to both French defense companies for comment on their possible involvement in the maintenance of Russian military aircraft through their Kazakh counterparts. Their answers are strikingly different.
