The first leader of this group was Hafiz Saeed Khan, who was able to establish extensive relations with local nomads, Pakistani Salafi groups, and a number of experienced fighters and fugitive Afghan soldiers, and made them members of the ISIS terrorist group, and finally this person was killed by American drones.
This group is still active and has between 4,000 and 6,000 fighters according to UN statistics. ISIS Khorasan has carried out more than 300 attacks in different provinces of Afghanistan. ISIS attacks in Khorasan have also expanded significantly geographically, so it has increased from six provinces in 2021 to 11 provinces by mid-2022.
Also, most of the activities and bases of this group are located in the plains, mountains, and caves inside Afghanistan and Pakistan, and they form their plans there, and we can even point to certain religious schools in Pakistan that the members of this group usually went to before and after joining. They are also coming, and these schools help to spread and cultivate Daesh and Salafist ideas and are a threat to the whole world.
