Aeroflot ordered its employees to fix aircraft malfunctions less often – there are still not enough spare parts
After the start of the war and the imposition of sanctions, Russian airlines significantly reduced their safety requirements. In today’s investigation, we have collected a lot of evidence of this, including the Aeroflot document, which allowed aircraft with malfunctions in the cabin to be lifted into the air.
Details. In March 2022, all senior flight attendants received a letter from the relevant department of Aeroflot. It contains an instruction – to enter data on technical failures and malfunctions of the cabin equipment in the flight log (Cabin Log Book, CLB) only after agreement with the aircraft commander.
Why is it needed? The airline does not want its aircraft to remain on the ground in conditions where, after the imposition of sanctions, it is difficult to find a replacement for any failed part. The senior flight attendant of Aeroflot says that now they verbally inform the aircraft technicians about the malfunctions found:
– I came to them and said: “Listen, well, this is broken, I did not write anything.” Often they answered: “Well, that’s right. That part is still missing.”
How was it before? Before the war, senior flight attendants recorded all defects in the CLB and only put the ship’s commander before the fact. “This rule was strictly observed: they wrote every little thing and fixed it all right there,” says a former employee of the company.
And with what kind of breakdowns do they fly now? For example, last year an Aeroflot plane made a flight from the UAE to Moscow without a full set of oxygen cylinders on board, which are needed during depressurization – the captain considered the problem insignificant.
How about other airlines? There, too, violations began to be committed – sometimes more serious. For example, the Nordwind administration asked the crews not to record that one of the aircraft was pouring fuel when starting the engine.
