The websites of Sberbank, the Kremlin and Rosneft were killed. Ukrainian programmers arrange DDoS attacks on Russian sites – how to join?

The below information is from:

What should be done?

HB spoke to one of the disBalancer programmers who told us how any user can join a cyberattack.

  1. Download this archive to your computer
  2. Unzip it
  3. Open the disBalancer program
  4. If you are in Ukraine, start a VPN ( Russians actively block Ukrainian IP addresses).
  5. Congratulations, you have become a soldier of the Ukrainian cyber army!

What is a DDoS attack and how does it work?

This is a hacker attack, the main purpose of which is to force the site to go down. This is one of the most popular cyber-attack methods, leaving almost no trace of its perpetrators.

When you start the program , it starts sending a huge number of requests to one of the Russian sites. The more users running the program at the same time, the more requests are sent to the site, so it’s important to keep the program open for as long as you can. When there are too many requests, the server fails and the site goes down. Even if the work of the site is restored over time, it takes additional resources.

So far, the programmers refuse to name the exact targets for attacks – the only exception was Sberbank. Thus, they want the enemy to be unable to prepare for the attack and defend themselves. Information about successful attacks is planned to be published after they have been committed.

Now the program works only on Windows. Software for Mac OS is in active development – several volunteers have already joined the team to help speed up the creation of the program.

So far, the DDoS attack has taken down the websites of Rosneft, the Kremlin, and Sberbank.

The disBalancer team remains in touch with HB, we will supplement the material as far as possible.
