The UK Foreign Office for the Commonwealth and Development (FCDO) has encountered (https://thestack.technology/foreign-office-hacked-fcdo-cyber-attack/) a major cybersecurity incident.

This came to light from a tender document that was published on a government website by chance. In view of the urgency and criticality of the work, the Ministry had to violate the terms and conditions of tender or competitive procedures.

The Ministry is investigating the cyber attack and localize its consequences, which cost the agency £467,326 (or $634,198). The details of the attack are not disclosed, as well as its actor, time and current state.

It is only known that the previously existing contract with BAE ended on January 12, 2022. The counterparty works with the UK government on a long-term basis, has an idea about the infrastructure of the Administration.

The incident coincided with a leak by the UK Department of Defense behind which the initiators of the LeakTheAnalyst hacker campaign. We will not insist on the connection between the two incidents, we will focus only on stating the facts.
