Iran UAVs reach unprecedented 4400 km range / Specifications of 5 UAVs based on RQ-170.

Dried-up river draws Iranians on Isfahan streets to demand its revival. Thousands of people, including farmers, have protested against actions resulting in a major river drying up in Iran’s central city of Isfahan, calling on authorities to open a dam to relieve drought-stricken areas.

171 is the first Iranian UAV with a range of 4400 km, and thus the operational range of Iranian UAVs has doubled.

According to the defense correspondent of Tasnim news agency, on December 4, 2011, an American advanced RQ-170 drone was grounded by the air force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps after entering the country.  A year later, the IRGC decrypted the drone and recovered the information stored in its memory.

Now, 9 years after that day, on the anniversary of the RQ-170 hunt, a clip has been released that contains information about the Iranian versions.

The IRGC Air Force initially builds a 15 percent sample of the drone to obtain the construction, details and wiring of the drone.

After that, in 1993, the construction of a 40% prototype of this UAV, named Shahed 161 and 141 UAVs, will be on the agenda of the IRGC Air Force.  The difference between control 141 and 161 drones is that control 161 uses a jet engine and control 141 uses a piston engine as propulsion.

Witness 161 drones with combat surveillance missions and a maximum range of 500 km and can fly up to 25,000 feet.  The maximum speed of this drone is 275 km per hour and its take-off weight is 70 kg and it can carry up to 2 bombs.

Then, in 1994, it was time to build a 60% prototype of this drone called Shahed 181 and Shahed 191.  The control 191 drone uses a jet engine and the control 181 uses a piston engine in its propulsion system.

Witness 191 UAVs with a triple reconnaissance, combat and surveillance mission with a maximum range of 1,500 km and a flight duration of 5.4 hours.  The drone is capable of flying at an altitude of 25,000 feet and flying at a speed of 350 kilometers per hour.  The maximum take-off weight of this drone is 500 kg and it can carry 2 bombs.

After making 40 and 60% prototypes, now it is time to build 100% or one-to-one RQ-170 prototype drones.  In 1996, the Shahed 171 UAV, a one-of-a-kind American UAV, was built with a range of 4,400 km.  The drone uses a turbofan engine as the driving force and with a reconnaissance and surveillance mission is able to reach an altitude of 36,000 feet and fly continuously for 10 hours.  Its maximum take-off weight is 3070 kg and its speed is 460 kg.

Until now, the highest range of Iranian drones belonged to Shahed 129 UAV with a range of 2000 km.

It is also the first time that a turbofan engine is used in Iranian drones, which represents Iran’s entry into the design and construction of a new generation of jet engines and air propulsion
