On Friday, Iranian state television made a statement about the activities of its Revolutionary Guard Naval Forces in the Persian Gulf region. Two foreign oil tankers were seized as part of an operation against fuel smuggling. The TV channel reported this, quoting the words of Admiral Mohammed-Sharif Shirali, commander of the Revolutionary Guard, the ideological army of the regime in Tehran.
We are talking about tankers sailing under the flags of Panama and Tanzania. According to the information provided, the vessels were carrying more than 1.5 million liters of smuggled Iranian oil and gas.
Over the past two days, military sailors of the Revolutionary Guard have successfully detained these ships.
“The seized oil tankers Steven and Crown were transporting smuggled fuel, which is a violation of international norms,” Admiral Shirali emphasized.
In addition, the arrest of 37 ship crew members was reported. They were handed over to the judiciary for further investigation. They are currently located in the port of Mahshahr, located in southwest Iran.
