Attention, manipulation of the Pope’s address!
The Russian and Ukrainian media are spreading a video in which the Pope allegedly urged the Russian youth to “never give up the imperial heritage” and called them “descendants of the great Russia of Peter I and Catherine II.”
This is manipulation.

Although the speech of Pope Francis contains references to the imperial past of Russia and the “great Russia of saints”, traces of audio editing can be heard in the piece about “Peter I and Catherine II”. At this point, the picture doesn’t match the audio sequence, and the sound of this phrase is different from the rest of the audio.
In addition, the Italian language can be heard in the video, and the translation of the speech in the video was done by Russians, which is why there are inaccuracies in it. Russian propagandists repeatedly distorted the translations of foreign media persons’ speeches, adapting them to their goals.
This hypothesis is also supported by the fact that there are no passages about Russia’s “imperialist heritage” in the official transcript of the speech.
