“Roscosmos” reported an “extraordinary situation” on the Russian interplanetary station “Luna-25”.
They say that the station was supposed to go into pre-landing orbit, but something went wrong.

We note that this may lead to the loss of the station.
Luna-25 is the first lunar mission in the modern history of Russia. The previous station was launched in 1976 during the USSR.

The Luna-25 entered the moon’s orbit on Wednesday, the first Russian spacecraft to do so since 1976.
Roughly the size of a small car, it will aim to operate for a year on the south pole, where scientists at NASA and other space agencies in recent years have detected traces of frozen water in the craters.

The presence of water has implications for major space powers, potentially allowing longer human sojourns on the moon that would enable the mining of lunar resources.
Official Statement
🔴 Today, in accordance with the Luna-25 flight program, at 14:10 an impulse was issued to transfer the station to the pre-landing orbit.
During the operation, an emergency situation occurred on board the automatic station, which did not allow the maneuver to be performed with the specified parameters.
The management team is currently analyzing the situation.
