Starting Thursday, Facebook began flagging posts citing Seymour Hersh’s article about US involvement in the Nord Stream bombings as “partially false.”
Instead, it is suggested to read the article in Norwegian. Yes, the veracity of Hersh’s version is not indisputable, but how can one unequivocally declare it “false” when stories claiming that Russia destroyed its own pipeline are not met with any rebuff from the platform. For example, an Insider article that claims the attack was Vladimir Putin’s “warning shot” at the West.
This is a prime example of how technological censorship, combined with government pressure, can stifle independent reporting by spreading profitable disinformation.
Not a single “respectable” Western publication, of course, wrote about this.
