Multipurpose nuclear submarine with cruise missiles (SSGN).  “Malachite” developed SPMBM, Chief Designer – V.N.Pyalov (1985-2016 years).  Research on the development of PLA 4th generation started in 1977. Preliminary design of the shock submarines with classic torpedo-missile weapons of pr.885 launched in 1980 along with the development of the PLA pr.957.  The new project (885) to maintain a certain continuity of the PLA pr.971 in reducing noise.  In 1985, the construction of boats pr.885 was planned construction program of the Soviet Navy for the next 10 years.  It involves the construction of a series of 30 submarines.  October 30, 1986 signed a contract №102 / 86-E / 554-86 between the Ministry of Defense of the USSR and SPMBM “Malachite” to perform development work (R & D) “Project 885” (an additional agreement to the contract signed on 31 March 2011  ).  Technical boat drafted in the late 1980s, but was later redesigned to reflect the changes of the Navy leadership requirements and subject to testing perspective and the same for different media anti-ship missile “Onyx” (1987).  In 1989, it was decided to terminate the development of specialized submarines and completion of the project under the 885 RCC “Onyx” and CBRC “Garnet” with the installation of a boat launcher vertical launch.

Designing submarines completed in 1991. Until 2000, it was planned to take in the Navy from 6 to 9 PLARK project.  Head boat pr.885 K-329 (in 2013 it became known that the boat is called the K-560) “Severodvinsk” of 10.12.1993 listed on Navy ships and laid at “Sevmash” (Severodvinsk) 21.12.  1993 with the serial number 160. When tab assumed that the launch will happen in 1996 with the delivery of the Navy in 1998. But by 1996, the construction of the boat is actually suspended.  In 2001, it was decided to redesign the submarines of Project 08850 modified with the launching in 2005

Formation of the hull was completed in 2005 (?).  The conclusion of the workshop for launching the boat was planned to make after May 7, 2010, but on May 7 Decommissioning the shop moved to 15.06.2010 May 20, 2010 it was reported on the appointment date of the PLA descent into the water on June 11, 2010  (corrected on June 10, 2010 and later on 15.06.2010).  Conclusion SSN “Severodvinsk” from the slipway shop in the “Sevmash” was held on 15.06.2010 and the launching of the trigger, the dock was 24.06.2010

State tests of the submarine and the head of the Navy boats adoption as of March 2010 was scheduled to begin in October 2010. However, this did not happen.  31.01.2011 in the media reported that the submarine runs mooring trials and in May 2011, the factory will begin sea trials.  In the summer of 2011 it was planned to begin testing weapons systems.  The reality was somewhat different – only 12 September 2011 the submarine K-329 entered the sea trials.  October 23, 2011 held the second submarine out to sea.  Possibly, at the second output start throwing produced RCC “Gauge” PU vertical launch.  The adoption of the parent submarine K-329 “Severodvinsk” the Navy Russia planned to produce up to end of 2011 (statement by the Director PO “Sevmash” of 16.03.2011).  December 2, 2011 it was reported that due nedovedennostyu boats (substandard components) and incomplete tests missile complex boat transfer will take place at the end of 2012 (Director of the “Sevmash” A.Dyachkov, 02.12.2011) – The following  180 sea days of sea trials the boat.  By circumstantial evidence – based on the conditions of the tender for maintenance of torpedoes for tests on the order №160 (see below), it can be concluded plans to complete the test PLARK “Severodvinsk” to the November 25, 2012 August 13, but the information appeared in the media  that the adoption of the Fleet boat held not earlier than in 2013 because of the deficiencies identified during the test.

December 12, 2012 “Izvestia” reported that PLARK “Severodvinsk” did not pass once the second stage of factory tests (although the newspaper uses the term “State tests”).  The reason – a large number of observations and defects.  At the same time it reported that the Main Command of the Navy has no claims to PLARK and considers the last stage of testing not step state tests, and intermediate tests missile system.  November 5, 2013 the media reported that the boat factory testing successfully completed the 14th access to the sea.  In total, during factory tests carried out in the sea Boat 222 days, it took tens of thousands of nautical miles and made more than a hundred dives and ascents.  It reported that the boat is embarked on a program of state tests (source).  Acceptance of boat Fleet as of October 2013, the expected 25.12.2013

December 30, 2013 the head of the project 885 submarines K-560 “Severodvinsk” officially adopted the Russian Navy in trial operation.  According to unofficial information in the process of state tests remained unfulfilled several dozen requirements.

It is expected that there will be built a series of six submarines pr.885 (as of 2009-2010), based at the Northern Fleet.  According to the state program of armaments for 2007-2015 GG  planned construction of 2 PLA pr.885.  22.08.2011, the media announced that in 2011-2020 gg  planned construction of 10 submarines of the project (information confirmed by 07.02.2012, the newspaper “Kommersant”, citing sources in the Russian Defense Ministry).  November 9, 2011 the media announced that it has signed between the Ministry of Defense of Russia and the United Shipbuilding Corporation the contract for the engineering design PLARK pr.885M “Ash” (SPMBM “Malachite”), the amount of development of 13.4 billion rubles.  PLA pr.885M will differ a complete rejection of the counterparty supplies from the CIS.  At the same time he signed a contract with PA “Sevmash” for the construction of the head boats pr.885M – “Kazan” – in the amount of 47 billion rubles and Series 5 of mass-produced boats for the sum of 164 billion rubles…  (By 32.8 billion rubles / pcs).  September 4, 2012 the media reported about the plans to adopt before 2020 7 draft boats – head pr.885 and six boats pr.885M.

NATO name “Granay” as erroneously used in the 1980s to name PL pr.877 and NATO name “Graney” is a typographical error, which has spread in the media.

PL Structure – polutorakorpusnaya – boat has a mixed architectural structural type with monohull design on the housing part length.  Lightweight body is present in the bow of the boat and superstructure of the fence cutting.  Rugged divided into 10 compartments and is made of a high strength magnetic steel is likely to yield strength to 100 kgf / mm (thickness 48 mm, processing presses FUJICAR).  Assembling the housing block is performed by using a metal rope damper instead of conventional pneumatic rubber-cord.  The equipment is mounted on a zonal Blocks massive frames.  New blocks layout method and the EI auxiliary equipment, cooling systems and reduce the noise power allowed by 10-15 dB.  Used vibration-laminated beams, stanchions, conduits and duct elements, other designs, reducing vibration noise by 10-30 dB.  The equipment is mounted on a vibration-absorbing honeycomb body made of composite materials.  Each structural unit is covered with sound-insulating panels.  The housing is covered with a rubber protivogidroakusticheskim PLA coating.  The boat used active damping system (SAG) to limit the noise of discrete frequency components of 50-500 Hz.

On SSGNs pr.885M expected use protivogidroakusticheskih types of coatings body “Lightning-M” and “Lightning-M-control.” On submarines implemented outboard reinforcement circulation routes or analogous type “Fin” (pr.971).

Propulsion system:

– NPS new type – the integrated monobloc-registration in one reactor unit and polyurethane.  Reactor – pressurized water from the primary coolant conduits placed in the reactor vessel.  Steam generating unit (PPU) KPM capacity up to 200 MW.  Starting with boats pr.885M planned to use the all-new one-piece design of the power plant.

– 1 x block single-shaft turbine plant (STP) “Mirage” production Kaluga Turbine Plant, probably with class GTZA OK-9VM or similar with improved cushioning capacity of approximately 43,000 hp

– 1 x propulsion motor of slow speed

– 2 x submersible thrusters 2 speed propulsion motors capacity PG-160 at 410 hp (370 hp dr.dannym) (?).  Located in advancing columns aft submarine.

Mechanics – one shaft, a 7-bladed low-noise screw fixed pitch with scimitar-shaped blades and a water jet propulsor (for PL pr.885M may – analog tested for PL B-871 “Alrosa” pr.877V).  Four reclining thrusters.  Nasal hydroplanes with flaps, probably sliding similar PLA pr.971.

On PLARK used steering gears development SPMBM “Malachite” and the production of PO “Sevmash”.  For upgraded PLARK pr.855M “Kazan” manufacturing improved (compared to PLARK “Severodvinsk”) steering engine started in 2013 at “Sevmash”.  Production of steering engine is scheduled for completion in 2013 (source).
