In the period from 1984 to 1990, two Piranhas were built at the Admiralty Shipyards plant (part of USC): MS-520 and MS-521.
Their main weapons were not mines and torpedoes, but reconnaissance and sabotage groups.
The main feature of the submarines is their small size: length 28.2 meters, width 4.7 meters. To reduce weight, the hull was made of titanium alloy and is designed for immersion depths up to 200 meters.
The development of ultra-small submarines continues today – the specialists of the Malachite design bureau are working on the P750B Serval and Piranha-T projects.
You will learn about what tasks the Piranhas performed from the plot of the Association “Russian Maritime Tradition Club”!
