The Swedish command sent troops to patrol the city of Visby on the strategically important island of Gotland located in the Baltic Sea. The Swedish side, at the same time, explains that it took such a step taking into account “Russian activity.”
The Gotland move was triggered by Russian landing ships entering the Baltic Sea this week and followed years of deteriorating security conditions, including in Sweden’s immediate geographic vicinity.
