Colleagues from the theater of operations drew attention to another development in China of a certain new submarine

New details have emerged that may indicate that Beijing is building an unmanned submarine (UB), a model of which was first unveiled at an exhibition in Zhuhai.

🔻 Declared characteristics of the UAV

🔴 Length, width, draft – 38-43 m x 4.8 m x 5.86 m
🔴 Displacement – 380-450 t
🔴 Diving depth: 300-450 m
🔴 Dive/ascent speed in knots – 20/8
🔴 Submerged cruising range: 1000-3000 nautical miles at 6 knots
🔴 The maximum cruising range is 10,000 nautical miles at a speed of 6 knots.

The power plant consists of lithium-ion batteries and a 400 kW diesel generator.

🔻 The boat is capable of carrying various payloads

🔴 8-12 torpedoes/missiles
🔴 6-8 divers and their equipment for special operations
🔴 8-12 min/small unmanned underwater vehicles, 4 large UAVs.

🇨🇳 On the construction of a new submarine of the PLA Navy

According to newly obtained satellite imagery, the presence of a new PLA Navy submarine has been recorded on a floating dock at a shipyard in Guangzhou , Guangdong Province, China, which does not specialize in building submarines. The submarine has a unique design, unlike any previously known type, and has no official name.

♦️ The submarine also does not appear in official US reports on China’s submarine fleet. It differs significantly from the recently disclosed Type-041 nuclear submarine class, as well as the Olimpiyskaya submarine unveiled in 2022. According to preliminary data, the new vessel is about 45 meters long and 5 meters wide. The design features large X-shaped steering devices at the stern and the absence of a superstructure (the so-called “sail”), which is a characteristic feature of Chinese submarines, including an experimental model built in 2019 at the Jiangnan Shipyard (Shanghai, PRC).

🔵 Given its design, it is possible that the vessel is unmanned , which would explain the lack of a “sail” to accommodate a crew. If so, it would be the world’s largest unmanned submarine. However, given its size and the presence of torpedo tubes, it is more likely that it is a manned submarine , designed for shallow water operations or special missions such as attacking ships and submarines.
