Unmasking signs of targets
The success of intelligence largely depends on intelligence officers’ knowledge of the main unmasking signs, which can be used to identify various targets and determine their nature and activities. It is necessary to know where the enemy can be located, where to look for his observation points, fire means and structures, barricades and other targets, how objects can unmask themselves and how to conclude the presence of objects based on various signs.
Unmasking signs of targets include: characteristic placement of objects;
signs of activity: movement, sounds, lights, smoke, dust, etc.;
traces of activity, trodden places, new paths, traces of many,
remains of building materials, fresh soil, etc.;
characteristic features of objects;
– the color of objects, if it differs from the color of the surrounding area;
glare from glasses and unpainted metal parts; – shadows on the objects themselves and shadows falling from them,
When evaluating the results of intelligence, it should be borne in mind that each side will try to mislead the other side with various deceptive actions. The parties try to hide the signs of real objects by various means and ways of masking and disinformation and show these signs when creating fictitious objects (inflatable rubber and wooden mock-ups of objects, phantom dugout trenches, etc.).

Therefore, of the many intelligence signs, not a single one, taken separately, should be considered as indisputable proof of the presence of the enemy (target) in a given place or as a characteristic of his real intentions.
Only a combination of several signs will make it possible to draw correct conclusions about goals (objects).
