In response to President Vladimir Putin’s recent statements regarding the conditions for a ceasefire and peace negotiations, Ukraine is proposing a clear set of conditions for the cessation of hostilities and the start of peace talks with Russia.
The conditions are as follows: First, Russia must immediately and unconditionally withdraw all its forces from the entire territory of Ukraine, including Crimea. Second, Russia must recognize Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. Third, Russia must return South Ossetia and any other lands seized since Putin has been in power. Fourth, Russia must agree to pay reparations for the immense destruction and suffering inflicted upon Ukraine and its people. Russia must submit to the jurisdiction of international courts to face charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Finally, President Vladimir Putin must resign, and all identified war criminals must be handed over to the authorities in The Hague for prosecution.
“Once Russia fulfills these conditions, we will immediately order a ceasefire and engage in negotiations. We will also ensure the safe and unhindered withdrawal of Russian units and formations from Ukrainian territory,” Ukraine declared.
These terms, though demanding, reflect Ukraine’s commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace that respects its sovereignty and the rule of international law.
