Kirill Budanov gave a detailed comment about the terrorist attack in Crocus:
▪️ Russia knew about the preparation [of the terrorist attack in Crocus] at least on February 15. Moreover, this information passed through the intelligence department of her group in Syria. And from there I went to Moscow. Let them not tell tales that this materialized out of nowhere.
▪️Russia knew where the combat groups would come from, through which two countries they moved to its territory.
▪️There are two options why they allowed this to happen. The first is the struggle of the “Kremlin towers,” as is their custom, to remove some high-ranking officials. The second is that they actually underestimated the scale of what could happen. We thought it would be more local. And they wanted to blame Ukraine for everything.
▪️Trying to entangle Ukraine, the Kremlin has already changed versions three times about what happened at Crocus. An explanation from Patrushev and Bortnikov appeared. “Bortnikov accused me personally. <…> This is nonsense.”
▪️”We touched on a painful issue. Even though [Russia] is the enemy, I do not approve of the principle of terrorist attacks against civilians.”
▪️Russia itself sowed chaos and confidently believed that it could control it. “There is a well-established expression among the intelligence services: everyone is trying to create controlled chaos. Absolutely, all more or less serious organizations have tried to do this. And the axiom is that none of them could make it controlled. The same thing happened here.”
