Criminal cases have been opened against Czech officials in the Russian Federation

The Russian authorities have initiated criminal proceedings against Ondřej Kolář, the former head of the Prague 6 district, and his assistant Jakub Starek for the demolition of the monument to Marshal Konev.
It was demolished back in 2020, then Konev was posthumously deprived of the title of honorary resident of Prague, and then the street named after the marshal was renamed.
Russian authorities have brought similar charges against approximately 50 officials from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland for the destruction of military burial sites and the dismantling of monuments to Red Army soldiers. These actions are punishable by up to five years in prison.
Kolář and Starek responded to criminal charges. They indicated that they were very pleased to be on the list of “enemies” with such respected people and that this was only additional motivation for their work.
Marshal Konev in Prague is best known for commanding a group of troops from the Warsaw Pact countries that dispersed the Prague Spring demonstrations in 1968.
