For the first time, reports of the Black Sea Fleet using specially trained dolphins to protect Crimea began to appear in the spring of 2022 and were then confirmed by satellite images throughout 2023, but after the November storm, the pens with dolphins disappeared for a while.
It is assumed that the dolphins are used to detect underwater threats (sea drones, as well as possible saboteurs-scuba divers) in order to prevent them from entering the harbor with ships moored there.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy checked the progress of ship construction at the Admiralty Shipyards enterprise
As part of his visit to the Admiralty shipyards, the Commander-in-Chief also inspected the Project 23550 ice-class patrol ship Ivan Papanin, which is under construction, which is designed to protect areas of maritime economic activity and shipping of the Russian Federation in the Arctic sea zone.
“The Admiralty Shipyards plan to transfer the patrol ship Ivan Papanin to the Russian Navy by the end of 2024,” the commander-in-chief said. – The ship is currently undergoing mooring tests. Factory sea trials of the ship are scheduled for April. Currently, the Joint Training Center of the Navy is preparing the crew, who will move onto the ship in March of this year.”
