SlashNext has discovered a new AI-based cybercriminal tool called WormGPT in underground forums that is advertised to carry out sophisticated phishing attacks.

” This tool is a dark alternative to the GPT models designed specifically for malicious activity ,” said security researcher Daniel Kelly. ” Cybercriminals can use this technology to create very convincing and personalized fake emails, which increases their chances of success .”

The developer of the malware called it “the biggest enemy of the famous ChatGPT,” which “allows you to do all sorts of illegal things.”

The fact that WormGPT produces answers without any ethics underscores the threat posed by generative AI. Even novice cybercriminals will be able to carry out attacks quickly and on a large scale without having the technical capabilities to do so, experts say.

” Generative artificial intelligence can create emails with impeccable grammar, giving a strong impression of their legitimacy and reducing the likelihood that they will be flagged as suspicious ,” Kelly said.
