If anyone does not know, there is such an organization Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN). They do, basically, all kinds of investigations related to politics (suddenly), but sometimes they come across very suitable materials on methodology and interesting tools. This time I came across a voluminous article about satellites.
“Satellite images are powerful tools for object detection and analysis, and provide vivid illustrations. Although they are already being used for stories about conflict, climate change, refugees, wildfires, illegal mining, oil spills, deforestation, slavery, and more However, investigative journalism could use these images from space even more often.

The article contains a lot of links to additional materials and articles by various experts. I would especially draw attention to the following:
“Satellite imagery as a reporting tool (pdf)” – a complete guide to using satellites in investigations
“Satellite Images and Shadow Analysis: How The Times Verifies Eyewitness Videos” – an article about how the Times checks videos for fakes
“Observing the Earth, Fueling Global Development Solutions” – introductory article on satellites
Well, towards the end, you can find specific services for working with satellite images. It should be understood that most of them are paid (I think there is no need to explain why). I liked 2 services:
Sentinel Hub EO Browser is a basic tool for beginners, free.
Image Hunter – you can see from which parts of the world most often one or another satellite image is viewed.
