Japan’s Public Security Intelligence Agency this month set up an economic security unit, which Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s administration has identified as a key issue, Jiji Press reported Sunday.
The agency also plans to set up such dedicated units in its regional offices across the country to step up efforts to prevent cutting-edge technology and data from leaking out of the country, government sources said.
The Intelligence Agency’s fiscal year 2023 budget includes 3.1 billion yen to strengthen its information collection and analysis system, including HUMINT.
