For the first time, a helicopter-type drone has been certified in Russia!

We are talking about UAV VT 440 developed by the Research and Production Enterprise Radar mms, a member of the AERONEXT Association.

“BVS VT 440 is the first unmanned helicopter in Russia, which is certified under the experimental legal regime in accordance with the requirements of the Federal Air Transport Agency. It received a tail number and performs tasks in the interests of the Russian Federation. Certification was passed in May this year. In Russia, no one has yet has not yet been certified, we became the first,” RIA Novosti quotes Ivan Antsev, executive director of the enterprise.

❓Why is this important for the entire industry?

The existing certification procedure is the same for both a huge airliner and a drone weighing, for example, 35 kg. This overloads the process with redundant requirements and drags it out. Now, for the first time, a new certification procedure has been tested, which should show how applicable it is for widespread implementation.

 “From now on, we can safely say that in Russia there will be a heavy drone! “Radar mms” will finally be able to gain operational experience that will allow us to create the best drones in the world. We have a very rich aviation history of the country, and there is a chance to increase this wealth”, Vasily Antsev, head of the BAS “Radar mms” department, said to the AERONEXT Association.

UAV VT 440 can be used to deliver cargo, as well as perform monitoring tasks or conduct geological exploration. Its payload is 100 kg, the total takeoff weight is 440 kg (hence the name of the device). The cruising speed is 150 km/h. The drone can stay in the air for up to 4 hours.

Now “Radar mms” focuses on the transition to serial production of BVS VT 440. According to Antsev, the company has all the possibilities for this.
