Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry and Other Gov Sites Hacked. SBU claims no data lost

Read Time:3 Minute, 12 Second

Fifteen websites and databases were reported, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Cabinet of Ministers, the Emergency Services, the Treasury, the Environmental Protection, and others.

From the Ukrainian Foreign ministry website. It says in Ukrainian, Russian and Polish:
— “Ukrainian, be afraid and prepare for the worst. All your personal data has been uploaded to the web”

Ukrainian! All your personal data has been uploaded to the public network. All data on the computer is destroyed and cannot be recovered. All information about you has become public, be afraid and expect the worst. This is for your past, present and future. For Volhynia, for the OUN UPA, for Galicia, for woodlands and for historical lands. (Bandera)

Refers to a Ukrainian massacre of Poles in the 40s in Volhynia. Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) Ukrayins’ka Povstans’ka Armiya (UPA). It was the primary perpetrator of the ethnic cleansing of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia

Intercession of the Theotokos feast. The Ukrainian People’s Revolutionary Army at the period from December 1941 untl July 1943 has the same name (Ukrainian Insurgent Army, or UPA). Committed acts of genocide against Poles, ethnic cleansing, and NAZI collaboration.

According to Timothy Snyder, the ethnic cleansing was a Ukrainian attempt to prevent the post-war Polish state from asserting its sovereignty over Ukrainian-majority areas that had been part of the prewar Polish state.

The resources of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Education, Sports, Energy, Agricultural Policy, and the State Emergency Service are not available. The websites of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted threats in three languages, as well as badges with a crossed-out coat of arms, flag, map of Ukraine and a pig.

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Oleg Nikolenko , said that “specialists are already engaged in the resumption of the work of IT systems.”

Earlier it was reported about the hacking of the website of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the message posted there with threats.

In July, hackers created a fake website for President Volodymyr Zelensky and spread viruses from it.

Earlier, hackers hacked the Instagram page of the Russian Consulate General in Kharkiv, where they published a provocative statement allegedly made on behalf of Consul General Igor Demyanenko.

It is specified that congratulations on the Day of Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine appeared on the page of the Russian diplomatic mission. The post contained provocative statements about the Russian leadership, allegedly on behalf of the consulate staff.

SBU

Despite the attacks of hackers, the content of the sites has not been changed and no personal data has been leaked. The investigation of the incident and the collection of digital evidence is carried out by the SBU together with specialists from the State Service for Special Communications. To isolate the technical issue and prevent it from spreading, some sites have been suspended. For example, the website of the Cabinet of Ministers is working as usual. The websites of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Emergency Service are still not working. The last one doesn’t even load.

Volhynia was “the site of one of eastern Europe’s most ambitious policies of toleration”.[19] Through supporting Ukrainian culture, religious autonomy and the Ukrainization of the Orthodox Church, Józef Piłsudski and his allies wanted to achieve Ukrainian loyalty to the Polish state and to minimise Soviet influences in the borderline region. That approach was gradually abandoned after Piłsudski’s death in 1935 as a consequence of an increase in radical Ukrainian nationalism.
