The RAND Corporation conducted a game theory study of the North Korean nuclear issue. Their recommendations to the American leadership:
The United States must take action to force Kim Jong-un to reveal his motives: whether he wants only to maintain his regime, or also to conquer South Korea.
Reliable mechanisms must be put in place to ensure compliance with any potential agreement.

US should be wary of Kim’s attempts to weaken US influence in the region.
The United States must secure Chinese support for any initiatives regarding the DPRK.
The United States should set a deadline for full denuclearization and indicate the consequences if this deadline is not met.
US should push Kim and American negotiators to value human life more than national ambition
Politicians and people in power should do their best to minimize impulsiveness and rash actions in future negotiations.
