PLA carrier strike group led by the aircraft carrier Liaoning passed through the Miyako Strait and returned to the East China Sea.

According to the press service of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Forces, on the morning of April 26, 2021, the PLA carrier strike group led by the aircraft carrier Liaoning passed through the Miyako Strait and returned to the East China Sea.  Miyako Strait is an open international sea passage between the islands of Okinawa and Miyako, approximately 145 nautical miles wide, through which ships can pass freely without any prior application or permission.
As can be seen from the photographs taken by a Japanese patrol aircraft, the PLA Navy’s carrier strike group included:
1. Aircraft carrier Liaoning;
2. New ocean-going ship of complex supply Hulunhu.  The ship is designed to replenish the stocks of aircraft carrier groups and other types of warships on the high seas.  It is the world’s largest ship for this purpose, with a total displacement of 55 thousand tons, the maximum length of 239.5 m and a width of 30.5 m;
3. Destroyer of project 055 Nanchang;
4. Project 052D destroyer Chengdu;
5. Destroyer of project 052D Taiyuan;
6. Project 054A frigate Huanggang;
