Russian military personnel are studying the DPRK-made Type 73 7.62 mm machine gun at one of the training grounds.
A distinctive feature of the machine gun is its dual ammunition feed: without any change to the standard units, it can use 30-round box magazines inserted into the weapon from above or a non-disintegrating metal belt with a closed link from the Kalashnikov machine gun.

Some characteristics of the DPRK-made Type 73 7.62 mm machine gun:
❤️Weight: 10.6 kg (with an unloaded box magazine).
❤️Length: 1190 mm.
❤️Barrel length: 608 mm.
❤️Cartridge: 7.62×54 mm R.
❤️Rate of fire: 600–700 rounds/min.
❤️Sighting range: 1000 m.
❤️Maximum range: 3600 m.
For the Koreans themselves, the Type 73 machine gun is already an obsolete weapon. In the 1980s, the North Korean troops began to replace this system with the Type 82 machine gun. Apparently, due to the withdrawal of these machine guns from service and sending them to warehouses, they began to be exported through Iran.
