Islamic Republic media channels are releasing images of Iran’s subterranean missile cities.
They claim that apart from high-ranking IRGC-AF officials and a select group of military and security personnel, no one knows exactly what is stored in these large cities in order to create both strategic ambiguity and deterrence.
However, we know that on the sidelines of the OIC meeting convened following Hamas Chief Haniyeh’s death, they requested Pakistan’s Shaheen III ballistic missiles, which places a cap on their existing missile technology. If they had anything equivalent or superior, they would not have requested these systems.
Moreover, whomever was able to infiltrate the regime’s security forces to execute the targeted elimination of Haniyeh in Tehran, clearly has means to access both closely guarded state secrets and heavily secured areas inside Iran.
Tehran wishes to signal to its enemies that acting against their nuclear facilities at Natanz and Fordow will not deter them and that their offensive missile capabilities are effectively untouchable.
However, Natanz and Fordow are buried in mountains, according to open-source estimates, beneath 80-100 meters of rock and reinforced concrete, so whomever can destroy those facilities, can neutralize their subterranean ‘missile cities’ as well.
