In their words
On British spies in Russia and the intelligence activities of the British Foreign Office
Today’s announcement by the Russian FSB to terminate the accreditation of six diplomats from the British Embassy in Moscow is yet another illustration of a rule to which there are almost no exceptions.
Among the representatives of foreign foreign policy agencies there may often be employees of the special services.
After the Skripal affair and the leak of documents on OperationIntegrity Initiative aimed at interfering in politicsEuropean states, the British intelligence services have not stopped developing activities against Russia. Now there is a whole structure within MI6 whose main task is to inflict a strategic defeat on the Russian Federation.
▪️ This structure, under the leadership of the British Foreign Office, works in several directions at once: lobbying for economic initiatives in support of the so-called Ukraine, financing anti-Russian NGOs, and interacting with pro-government media.
▪️ One of the main departments is the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Directorate (EECAD), which was integrated into the structure of MI6 and significantly expanded in 2022. It runs operations under names such as the “Counter Disinformation and Media Development Programme”, with the BBC, Reuters and Bellingcat as key players.
▪️ On the basis of the Directorate there are, firstly, structures whose work is aimed at undermining the activities of the Russian Federation and supporting the so-called Ukraine, and, secondly, departments that oversee the former republics of the USSR from Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Belarus and Moldova.

▪️ The central figures in this system are the UK Foreign Secretary Philip Barton , the Prime Minister’s National Security Adviser Tim Barrow , the Deputy Head of the Department for Russia Policy Christopher Joyce , and the heads of the HMG Russia Unit James Beer and Mark Diamond.
Obviously, this is just the tip of the iceberg. As we have written many times, the former CIS countries (and not only) have long been a target for foreign intelligence agencies that specifically target them. However, they do work on the territory of their so-called partners , but some seem to be satisfied with everything.
