Grumant: Schemes of Chartering a Vessel to Steal Grain from Occupied Sevastopol
GRUMANT became another merchant vessel of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation involved in the theft of Ukrainian grain. Since February 2024, the ship has made 4 flights from occupied Sevastopol to the Syrian ports of Tartus and Latakia, with a total volume of wheat of 78,558,873 tons.
The sender of the grain is the company “PALLADA”, in Syria the grain is received by a state-owned Syrian company. The investigation uncovered a scheme involving the chartering of a vessel for the purpose of committing crimes in violation of the State Border of Ukraine.
Violation




GRUMANT (IMO: 9385879, MMSI 273318940, Call sign UFCK, Flag russia) arrived in the Black Sea on 06/09/2024 and headed towards the Kerch Strait, to an uncontrolled anchorage in the neutral waters of the Black Sea, the so-called Tortuga, from where 06/12/2024 11: At 50 UTC a signal was recorded in AIS. Until June 16, 2024, the signals were recorded from the runway of the Simferopol airport, this is the result of GPS spoofing, which was arranged by the occupiers near Crimea. This is a serious violation of shipping rules by the Russian aggressor, which, unfortunately, the world community has not yet reacted to.
GRUMANT turned off the ship’s transponder on 06/16/2024 20:43 UTC and entered occupied Sevastopol on 06/20/2024. The ship was moored to the berth near the grain terminal of the stevedoring company “Avlita” (registered as “Aval” in Russian registers).
On June 24, 2024, after loading, the GRUMANT vessel left Sevastopol Bay. The signal in AIS appeared on 25.06.2024 17:31 UTC.
The ship’s transponder was turned off from June 16 to June 25, 2024, during its stay in occupied Sevastopol, which testifies to the efforts of Captain GRUMANT to hide the crime of violating the State Border of Ukraine.
We see that the ship passed through the Bosphorus with a serious violation – the IMO number and part of the name were closed, “GRUMANT” turned into “ANT”.
GRUMANT stopped in the Sea of Marmara near the port of Tuzla on June 26-29. The second time the ship was delayed before entering the Dardanelles. The reason for the stops is unknown. As of 07/08/2024, the GRUMANT vessel arrived at the anchorage of the Syrian port of Tartus, waiting for permission to dock.
Near Tuzla, the ship was photographed , again the false name “ANT” is visible.
In a previous similar voyage (with grain from occupied Sevastopol to Syria), a vessel on the Bosphorus with its name and IMO number closed.

This means that the Turkish maritime authorities allow violations on the part of the crew and the shipowner, therefore they cooperate with the thief of Ukrainian grain GRUMANT, which is engaged in the export of stolen Ukrainian grain from occupied Sevastopol.

The Equasis database provides information that commercial and security management of the GRUMANT vessel is carried out by the company “Reshenie”, and the vessel is registered at MURMANSK SHIPPING CO (IMO: 0555624),
