Small missile ships (SMRs) for the Russian Navy will be built with additional protection of the engine room from naval drones, said Renat Mistakhov, CEO of the Ak Bars shipbuilding corporation.
“The adversary understands that his main task is to first immobilize our ship and then finish it off, and all he does is hit the ship’s engine room. We must ensure the protection of the engine room, this is the bottleneck on all ships,” he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Mistakhov added that studying the issues of combating naval drones in the Black Sea Fleet led to the conclusion that it is necessary to change the internal structure of the ship. Including passages, corridors, crew accommodations.
