OSINT researcher Jompy conducted satellite imagery calculations of equipment stored at Russian armored repair plants (BTRZ). It is on them that the Russians repair damaged and broken tanks and armored fighting vehicles in Ukraine, as well as remove Soviet reserves from mothballing and modernize them.

The total number of equipment at these plants is currently significant – 3822 units, but this does not mean that all of them will be put into operation. At least 486 units were identified by Jompy as apparently dismantled for parts.
Several interesting trends can be identified from the researcher’s calculations. Jompy counted 99 BMP-3s located at Kurganmashzavod.
According to his conclusions, these can only be infantry fighting vehicles that were damaged in Ukraine.
At the start of the invasion, the Russians had fewer than 500 combat vehicles of this type; according to Oryx, the Russians lost at least 335 of them, and the production of new ones was estimated by researchers at 140-200 per year. Thus, the hundred BMP-3s at the plant represent an extremely significant part of the remaining BMP-3s.
It is also characteristic that almost all vehicles on the BTRZ are tanks or infantry fighting vehicles.
The number of other vehicles (BTR-50/60/70/80, BMD, BRDM, MT-LB and others) is relatively small. This is consistent with Jompy’s previously stated opinion that Russian stocks of almost all armored infantry vehicles except the BMP-1 have been exhausted.
