This manual is the first publication devoted to investigative journalism in Kyrgyzstan, the mechanisms of its implementation, and the peculiarities of working with sources of information of TV journalists and newspaper journalists.
The authors do not claim sensational approaches to teaching the use of this genre. Today there are many textbooks devoted to investigative journalism and techniques for conducting it in Russia, America and Europe. All of them are certainly interesting and original, but often their use in Kyrgyzstan is impossible. Our textbook was prepared by a group of Kyrgyz journalists taking into account local historical, legislative and other features.
The book presents the theoretical foundations of the genre of investigative journalism, highlights the features of the work of an investigative journalist, types of investigations, as well as methods of working with sources of information.
Over the decade and a half of the existence of an independent press in Kyrgyzstan, journalists have learned a lot: to survive in conditions of judicial pressure and persecution, to overcome economic problems, to master management and to build market relations in a country with a deformed economic system. Survived, Persevered.
It is logical that at the next stage of media development there should be a qualitative increase in the skill of a journalist. The high mission of the profession obliges him to not
just a conductor of information, but also to form, form
to promote and support value categories based on respect for the law and human rights, and, finally, to entertain. The media is not just the “fourth estate”; it is a powerful tool that shapes public consciousness. This is probably why journalists are not liked.
government officials, which is why the government and the press are always in confrontation.
When will this confrontation end? Probably never. But it is quite certain that journalists will begin to be respected more if they base their materials on truthful and reliable information about current events, strive to be objective, leaving their own opinions behind the scenes or in the newspaper line. Kyrgyz journalists have yet to learn how to apply the medical principle “DO NO HARM!” in your own ethics. A journalist is obliged to remember the fates of people whose personal or public lives come into his field of vision. We have to learn all this.
The book is a practical guide for journalists, students and teachers of journalism and mass communications departments of higher educational institutions.
The manual was published with the financial support of the Soros Foundation Kyrgyzstan within the framework of the project “Development of investigative journalism in the media of Kyrgyzstan.”
