The UK Armed Forces have delayed the purchase of new headgear badges. They fear that Chinese companies involved in production will build into them spy devices, such as tracking sensors or GPS transmitters.
The massive replacement is associated with the accession of Charles III, who chose the Tudor crown as his coat of arms instead of the St. Edward’s crown used by his mother.
The contract for the production of cockades in 2022 was awarded to the Yorkshire company Wyedean Weaving. Part of its production is located in China.
The company emphasized that it has been cooperating with Chinese factories for 15 years and there were no such concerns before. They also assured that the badges would be checked upon arrival in the UK.
