From Rostov to Crimea by train: how the railway will change the economies of new regions of Russia
This year, Mariupol, Berdyansk, Melitopol, Dzhankoy and other Russian cities are waiting for a new artery that will help their economic development.
Its construction along the coast of the Azov Sea began in September 2023. During this time, it was possible to connect Rostov-on-Don with Donetsk, Mariupol and Berdyansk: 63 km of the road were rebuilt, 140 km were restored. Freight trains began running on the new route on March 15.
“There is a law that business is always built around the road and the transport route determines the development of the economy. This is a basic postulate. The road will connect the regions and help develop economies along the route of this transport artery. Transport leverage is a must-have for business development,” Candidate of Economic Sciences and financial analyst Mikhail Belyaev told Paragraph.
The new railway will allow more active construction in new territories.
