Photos showed serious damage to the Minsk landing ship and the Rostov-on-Don submarine after a night missile attack
Photos have been published showing the scale of destruction of the landing ship Minsk and the diesel-electric submarine Rostov-on-Don after a Ukrainian missile attack on Wednesday morning. The images show that both ships were seriously damaged, OSINT analysts write .
Details . Analysts draw their conclusions from two photographs: on one, taken from the ground, “Minsk” is visible, and on the other, satellite, both “Minsk” and “Rostov-on-Don”.
▪️ “They are both destroyed,” wrote OSINT analyst Oliver Alexander. He noted that Russia again lost ships after an attack by a country that does not have a full-fledged navy. The same conclusion about the severity of the damage was made by an OSINT researcher with the nickname Intelschizo and Bild military journalist Julian Repke. “It looks like duct tape and [all-purpose lubricant] WD-40 won’t help,” wrote Radio Liberty journalist Mark Krutov.
▪️OSINT analyst, who runs the HI Sutton Twitter account, published a photo showing the damage received by Minsk. The image noted that the ship’s mast, rear mast, funnel and superstructure (an enclosed structure on the deck) had collapsed. The front cannon may also have been damaged.
▪️Andrey Yusov, the official representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, said that the damage to the ships was significant. According to him, with a high degree of probability the ships cannot be restored.

▪️The Oryx project added both ships to the list of Russian naval losses in the “damaged” category. At the same time, “Minsk” is damaged so badly that it is unprofitable to restore it, the project list says.
▪️The Russian Ministry of Defense this morning announced plans to restore the ships. “Two ships <…> will be completely restored and will continue to serve in combat as part of their fleets,” the department said in a statement.
Context . According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, on Wednesday night Sevastopol was attacked by 10 missiles, seven of which were shot down by air defense, as well as three unmanned boats that were destroyed by the Vasily Bykov ship. During the attack, the large landing ship Minsk and the diesel-electric submarine Rostov-on-Don, one of the six submarines of the Black Sea Fleet and one of the most modern ships, were damaged. At the time of the attack, both ships were in the dry docks of the Sevastopol Marine Plant.
▪️According to Sky News, which cites sources, British Storm Shadow missiles were used for the attack.
