After the start of the illegal war, it became clear that large landing ships were becoming one of the priority targets for the enemy. Ships of this type, Soviet-built, deployed in the Black Sea Fleet, were repeatedly subjected to massive attacks by unmanned VFU boats, drones and missile weapons.
According to the general designer of project 11711 “Cayman” Nikolai Verbov, the new large landing ship has been modernized taking into account the experience of real combat operations.
— After the start of the SVO, we made adjustments to the project and provided systems for detecting and radio suppression of drones, air and sea. All-round protection of the ship is provided with AK-630 cannons and heavy machine guns. Fire control can be carried out integrated or from local posts, depending on the type of target attacking the ship.
The new integrated mast accommodates a wide range of navigation, situational lighting and electronic warfare aids. The inter-deck gangway allows you to quickly lift the necessary equipment onto the ship’s runway.
