The national coordination center for computer incidents subordinated to the FSB issued an appeal to Russian Internet users.
According to the department, browser extensions, plug-ins with different functionality (blocking intrusive ads, ensuring password storage, etc.) are currently a threat.

So the extension “Video in picture-in-picture mode” in the Google Chrome Internet browser, when updated, introduced a malicious code for users in Russia.

“Computers of Russian Internet users who have this plugin installed in their browser have become members of a botnet that is attacking information resources of the Russian Federation,” the department explains.

The center subordinate to the FSB recommends that users minimize or refuse the use of browser extensions, if this is not directly necessary.
